Life Certificate at Home Through Your Postman — IPPB Jeevan Pramaan Doorstep Service Before 30 November
Yes, your postman can make your pension life certificate at home. Book a visit through India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), keep your Aadhaar and PPO number ready, and the postman does a quick fingerprint check on the spot. Here is exactly how to book it, what it costs and how to confirm your bank got it.
Waiting for a pension letter, PPO or new card by post?
Enter the consignment number and see where it is right now — free, no login.
The short answer: India Post Payments Bank runs a doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service. You request a visit, a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak comes to your house, verifies you with Aadhaar biometrics, and the Jeevan Pramaan certificate is generated there and then. You don't need to stand in a bank queue, and you don't need to be an IPPB account holder.
IPPB charges ₹70 (GST included) only if the certificate is generated successfully. There's no separate charge for the home visit. EPS-95 pensioners of EPFO get it free, because EPFO pays IPPB directly.
The deadline matters. For most pensioners the life certificate is due by 30 November 2026. If your bank doesn't receive it, your pension can be stopped until you submit one. So if you're reading this for your father or mother, book the visit this week, not in the last few days of the month.
Who Must Submit, and By When
Every pensioner has to prove once a year that they are alive, so the pension keeps coming. For central government pensioners, the window depends on your age:
| Pensioner | Can submit from | Last date |
|---|---|---|
| Aged 80 and above (super senior) | 1 October 2026 | 30 November 2026 |
| Below 80 | 1 November 2026 | 30 November 2026 |
| EPFO EPS-95 pensioners | Any time in the year | Valid for one year from the date you submit |
State government and other pensioners follow their own department's rules, and their dates can differ. If you're unsure, ask your pension-paying bank branch.
This November the Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare is also running its 5th nationwide Digital Life Certificate campaign, from 1 to 30 November 2026, with camps in 2,000 cities and districts. India Post Payments Bank, 19 banks and 785 district post offices are among the partners, so you'll see more camps and more postmen offering the service this month.
Don't bank on an extension. The government has extended the date in some years, but there's no announcement for 2026. Treat 30 November as final.
Can You Use the Postman Service? Quick Check
The doorstep DLC works for central government, state government, EPFO and other government pensioners, whether or not they bank with IPPB. Three things must be true:
Your pension-paying agency is live on Jeevan Pramaan
Check this with your bank or pension office, especially if you get your pension through a smaller bank or a state treasury.
Your Aadhaar is registered with the pension bank
If your pension account isn't linked to Aadhaar, the certificate may be generated but your bank can't match it. Get it linked at the branch first.
You have a working mobile number
The OTP for booking and the SMS with your Pramaan ID come to this number. A son or daughter's number is fine for booking, but keep the phone handy on the visit day.
How to Book the Postman Visit — 3 Ways
Pick whichever is easiest for you. The request lands at the post office that serves your PIN code, which assigns a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak to call you and fix a time.
Online: India Post's Postinfo app
- Install India Post's Postinfo app from the Google Play Store.
- Go to Service Request and fill in the pensioner's name, full address, PIN code and mobile number.
- Choose the IPPB service Jeevan Pramaan (Digital Life Certificate) Generation.
- Enter the OTP sent to the mobile number to confirm.
Write the address the way the local postman knows it, with a landmark. Our guide on how to write an address India Post can find applies here too.
Phone: IPPB helpline
155299 or 033-22029000
IPPB customer care · call charges depend on your mobile plan
Tell them you want a doorstep Jeevan Pramaan (DLC) visit and give the address, PIN code and a convenient day. EPFO's rollout of the free home visit for EPS pensioners names 033-22029000 as the IPPB number to call.
In person: tell your postman or the post office
This can be the quickest. Catch your regular postman on the beat or ask at the nearest post office counter for the IPPB DLC service. Anyone in the family can go; the pensioner doesn't need to come. If you can make it to the post office yourself, you can usually get the certificate made right there at the IPPB counter.
What to Keep Ready for the Postman
The visit goes much faster if these are on the table, instead of someone hunting for the PPO number.
If you made a digital life certificate in an earlier year, many of these details fill in automatically. Still, before the postman leaves, read the bank account number and PPO number on his screen yourself. A single wrong digit can get the DLC rejected by the bank.
The Fee, and When You Pay It
| Who you are | What you pay | When |
|---|---|---|
| Central/state govt and other pensioners | ₹70 including GST | Only after the certificate is generated |
| EPFO EPS-95 pensioners | Nothing | EPFO pays IPPB for successful certificates |
| Anyone, if authentication fails | Nothing | No fee when no certificate is made |
There's no extra "doorstep charge" on top. If anyone asks for more than ₹70, or asks EPS-95 pensioners for money, don't pay. Note the name and call IPPB customer care.
What Happens on the Visit, Step by Step
The postman calls to fix a time
After an online or phone booking, a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak is assigned, usually within a day or two, and phones you. Keep the phone on and answer unknown numbers that week.
Pension details are entered on his device
He enters Aadhaar, PPO number, bank and pension type. Check them with him.
Biometric check
The pensioner gives a fingerprint on the postman's device. For the free EPFO service, postmen mainly use face authentication, with fingerprint as a fallback. Elderly fingerprints can be faint, so wash and dry hands first and try different fingers.
Certificate generated, Pramaan ID by SMS
The DLC is created instantly and paperless. You get an SMS with your Jeevan Pramaan ID (Pramaan ID). Pay the ₹70 now if applicable.
The certificate goes to your bank by itself
You don't carry anything to the bank. The certificate is available to your pension-paying agency electronically, and the bank sends an SMS once it accepts it.
How to Download and Check Your Certificate Was Accepted
"Generated" and "accepted by the bank" are two different things. Do both checks:
- 1Save the Pramaan ID SMS. Screenshot it or write the ID in the pension file.
- 2Download the PDF. On the Jeevan Pramaan website, jeevanpramaan.gov.in, enter the Pramaan ID to download your certificate. Keep it as proof.
- 3Wait for the bank's SMS. The pension bank confirms acceptance by SMS to the mobile number linked to the pension account, typically within a couple of working days.
- 4No SMS after a week? Call or visit the pension branch with the Pramaan ID and ask them to check. Don't wait until the December pension fails to arrive.
Rejected because of a wrong PPO or account number? You'll need a fresh certificate with the right details. Book again, or use one of the other methods below.
What If the Postman Doesn't Come?
Sometimes a request slips through. Here's the order to escalate in:
No call in 2 days: call the post office
Ring or visit the post office for your PIN code and ask who has been assigned the IPPB DLC request. Give the date you booked and the mobile number used.
Still nothing: IPPB customer care
Call 155299 or 033-22029000, or email contact@ippbonline.in, with the pensioner's name, PIN code and booking date.
Unhappy with the service: India Post complaint
File a grievance about the post office. Our India Post complaint guide shows the channels that get a reply.
Close to 30 November: switch methods, don't wait
Use any of the backups in the next section. One accepted certificate is all you need.
Other Ways to Submit If the Postman Option Fails
| Method | Good for | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Face authentication on a phone | Families with a smartphone; faint fingerprints | Needs the AadhaarFaceRD and Jeevan Pramaan Face apps, good light and internet |
| IPPB counter at the post office | Pensioners who can travel a little | Possible queues near month-end |
| Jeevan Pramaan Centre (CSC or bank) | Biometric DLC near home | Find the nearest centre on jeevanpramaan.gov.in |
| Paper life certificate at the bank | When biometrics keep failing | Pensioner usually has to appear at the branch |
| Camps in the DLC Campaign 5.0 | Anyone, in November | Only on announced dates and places |
If you've missed the deadline, the pension is typically held, not cancelled. Submit a certificate by any method as soon as you can and ask the bank to restart payment.
Mistakes That Get Doorstep Certificates Rejected
Wrong PPO or account number
Read it back from the device. Copy the PPO from the original order, not from memory.
Aadhaar not linked to the pension account
Fix this at the bank before booking. It's quick and saves a wasted visit.
Old mobile number
If the bank SMS goes to a number nobody uses, you'll never see the acceptance. Update it with the bank.
Booking in the last week
If the first attempt fails, there's little time left for a second try.
One more thing while you're at it: if the bank is posting a new debit card or cheque book to the pensioner, you can follow it on our tracker. See tracking a debit card sent by Speed Post, and for Aadhaar letters, Aadhaar card Speed Post tracking.
